A 10 session course from 2nd July 2024 - 1st August 2024 with sessions twice a week.
Class Content and Structure :
1. Fundamental Handbuilding Techniques :
Participants will acquire a solid foundation in essential handbuilding techniques, including pinching, coiling, and slab construction, allowing them to create various forms and shapes.
2. Exploration of Form and Structure :
Through hands-on practice and experimentation, students will explore the creation of both functional and sculptural pottery pieces, gaining an understanding of form, balance, and proportion.
3. Surface Decoration Techniques :
Students will learn surface decoration techniques such as carving, imprinting, and adding textures, enabling them to enhance the visual appeal of their pottery creations.
4. Understanding of Clay Properties :
Participants will develop an understanding of different clay types and their properties, learning how to prepare and handle clay effectively for handbuilding projects.
5. Creativity and Self-Expression :
The course will encourage students to unleash their creativity and express themselves artistically through pottery, fostering a sense of individuality and artistic exploration.
6. Problem-Solving and Adaptability:
Students will learn to troubleshoot common challenges encountered during the handbuilding process, developing problem-solving skills and adaptability in their approach to pottery making.
7. Glazing Fundamentals :
Students will gain an understanding of glaze types, application methods, and firing processes, enabling them to confidently apply glazes to their finished pottery pieces and achieve desired surface effects.
8.Community and Continued Learning:
Participants will have the opportunity to connect with other pottery enthusiasts, share ideas, and access resources for further learning and development, including studio access and recommended reading materials.
Participants have the opportunity to glaze and fire three final pieces.
Participants also get 2 free open studio sessions to be utilised within course duration.
