A 12 session course from 1st July 2024 - 26th July 2024, with sessions thrice a week.
Class Content and Structure :
1. Basic Wheel Throwing Techniques :
Participants will gain a solid understanding of fundamental wheel throwing techniques, including centering, opening, pulling walls, and shaping clay to create basic forms such as cylinders and bowls.
2. Understanding Clay Behavior :
Students will learn about the properties of clay, including its texture, moisture content, and plasticity, allowing them to better manipulate the material on the wheel.
3. Exploration of Forms and Shapes :
Through hands-on practice and experimentation, participants will explore different forms and shapes, gaining the ability to create a variety of vessels and functional pottery pieces.
4. Surface Decoration Techniques :
Students will be introduced to various surface decoration techniques, allowing them to add texture and visual interest to their pottery creations.
5. Introduction to Trimming and Finishing :
Participants will learn the basics of trimming and finishing pottery pieces, including techniques for refining forms, creating foot rings, and adding handles to functional vessels.
6. Glazing Fundamentals :
Students will gain an understanding of glaze types, application methods, and firing processes, enabling them to confidently apply glazes to their finished pottery pieces and achieve desired surface effects.
7. Individualized Instruction and Feedback :
The course will provide opportunities for personalized instruction and feedback from experienced ceramic artists, helping participants to improve their skills and troubleshoot any challenges they encounter.
8. Creativity and Self-Expression :
Throughout the course, students will be encouraged to explore their creativity and develop their own unique style, fostering a sense of artistic expression and individuality in their pottery creations.
Participants have the opportunity to glaze and fire three final pieces.
Participants get 2 free open studio sessions to be utilised within course duration.
